A note on race permits

All of our events are now permitted through ARC (The Association of Running Clubs) instead of UK Athletics / England Athletics. Some concern has been expressed by members of UKA/EA-affiliated clubs that they could risk suspension for competing in races which do not have a UKA/EA permit (which is, amazingly, one of their rules). However, this really is not likely to happen. ARC have stated:

John Graves, Chairman of England Athletics, has stated that the thought of suspending anybody for running in an ARC race has never crossed his mind. Nobody from UKAthletics has ever considered suspending those who compete in ARC races. Over one hundred races involving over 30,000 athletes have already been permitted by ARC and nobody has been suspended or threatened with suspension.

You don't run against a bloody stopwatch, do you hear? A runner runs against himself, against the best that's in him. Not against a dead thing of wheels and pulleys. That's the way to be great, running against yourself. Against all the rotten mess in this world. Against God, if you're good enough.
