I hope you all enjoyed yourselves on my "hills are lots of fun really" course but I won't repeat what a couple the first few Grizzlers called me for subjecting them to such pain! Only two people felt that it was too hard so it can't have been that bad!
Congrats to the winners, especially to Frank Zimmer who came all the way from Frankfurt to win by a good margin and to Neil Holmes who's run ten of the last eleven Grizzlies and finished in the top three in all of them. You're all winners, of course, but you knew that didn't you?
Many thanks are due to all involved, of course - marshals, landowners, sponsors (especially Saucony cos they put a lot into the race but let us organise things how we want - perfect sponsors), St. John Ambulance, Raynet, police, Devon fire & rescue, ... the list goes on. And talking of sponsors ...
One negative point - I collected a fair amount of litter from the course on the following day, mainly sweet wrappers and the ubiquitous gel sachets and tops. (Ironically, one of the latter had "Please do not litter" printed on it!) I realise that it can be easy to drop the tops (the manufacturers of those things need a damned good whipping for their environmentally-unfriendly design) but there really is no excuse whatever for ditching the used sachets themselves. Two of the five landowners I've spoken to so far mentioned that they had cleared some themselves - not exactly good PR for the running community, eh?
But on a more positive note, I received the following email:
On behalf of the group of Marshalls from the Umborne Hall may i pass on our congratulations to you & your club for organising a tremendous event. The experience for most of us as first timers was enhanced enormously by the consistent thanks we were given by all the runners as they passed.Well done!It does the running community great credit that, even after 15 or so miles when body & mind must be suffering, they could all voice appreciation or just raise a hand or a smile in response to our lame attempts at humour or encouragement.

* This is the percentage of the speed at which the runner completed the course relative to the "world standard" for that age. Pseudo-distances of 10 & 25 miles were guesstimated for the Cub Run and Grizzly, respectively, to allow for climb, terrain and general conditions. The values can't really be compared with those from races but do give a useful comparison of performance compared with other people in the same event. Also, the women's grades are a bit tougher than the men's so you can't really use them to compare between genders.
To save the bandwidth of downloading separate age-graded results I'll leave those of you who are interested to paste the results into a spreadsheet and sort on perc and just show the first ten in age-grade order:
